GreenPlaybook.org

This online resource, a joint project of the USGBC and more than 20 municipal and private partners gives strategies, tips and tools for communities to increase the green in their buildings and neighborhoods.

The Green Playbook for Green Buildings and Neighborhoods offers strategies, tips and tools for communities that are both familiar and new to green building concepts.

The guide includes advice on assessing local risks and opportunities, developing action-based planning processes and, ways to increase green building capacity. Talking points to acquaint staff with the issues also are included.

The authors hope that elected officials and senior managers use the guide to help them draw up local climate change strategies. The various partners will launch the first phase to assist the more 700 mayors that have signed the U.S. Conference of Mayors Climate Protection Agreement.

"Buildings consume nearly 40 percent of U.S. energy, which also means they can be 40 percent of the climate change solution," said Jason Hartke, the USGBC's manager of state and local policy. "Involvement at the city and state level is a key step towards making an impact."

The Green Playbook's partners include Sierra Club Cool Cities Campaign, Clinton Climate Initiative, U.S. Conference of Mayors and Puget Sound Energy, among others.
