The Clean Cargo and Sustainable Transport working groups, part of the Business for Social Responsibility's Sustainable Transport Initiative, promote cleaner, more environmentally sustainable transportation by working with leading multinational shippers and carriers. The groups are developing voluntary environmental management guidelines and metrics for evaluating and improving freight transport.

The Clean Cargo Group promotes sustainable product transportation in both containerized and bulk shipping at sea, in major inland commercial waterways, and in port. The Sustainable Freight Transport Group addresses all modes of transportation and works primarily with shippers to incorporate product transport into businesses' corporate footprint and environmental management systems.
